He charts the history of the curious concept from the pioneering work of Albert Einstein and Erwin Schrödinger in the 1930s; through to the brilliant insights of John Stewart Bell in the 1960s; and on to the ground-breaking experiments of this year’s Nobel laureates. Kaiser, who is based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, talks about the early controversy surrounding entanglement and explains why the phenomenon was swept under the carpet by the wartime generation of physicists only to be revived in the 1960s.
